Well, I'm not here to defend any particular plugin ... since I already have them.I began with GREEN, back in the early days of beta-testing. Since then, it has evolved to version 4 or 5.GreenZEN sounded good ... though it did come across with a 'harder' sound. [especially compared to Scarlet, or Ivory].AlexB and TimP both had releases for Nebula.At the time ... these were about the best there was.An important issue I find with any of the Acqua/N4 technology is the workflow. There is an inherent 'delay' when making changes that I findquite distracting. It's a delay attributed to loading in the new samples.When PA released their 8200 ... I had high expectations, having already purchased their MU and Massive/Passive, which I like better than otheremulations [Since the UAD MP is not 'native', I'm not able to know first hand].The PA-8200 works, and pretty much, sounds like what I expect from the hardware. I've no doubt that the hardware version STILL has THE sound,but my days of hardware are over.I did do some comparisons of GREEN and PA ... but the initial difference told me something else was going on. I therefore had to resort to usingPlugDoc to do 'curve matching'.To do that, it was neccesary to match PA to Green, because the GUI numerics are not one for one, and GREEN is limited to 4 Q settings [which is alsoa limitation]. Matching one band was rather simple, but when multiple bands were involved, it require addition changes. All I wanted to accomplishwas as fair a sonic comparison.The 2 plugs, indeed, have a different sound. I'd say both are good in their own way. The GREEN can have a deeper presentation of the soundfield,while the PA MAY be a bit more forward.There is a U-tube video by 'Paul' [forgot name ... from Poland], that did a more detailed comparison if interested.For myself [Mastering], I find that the PA-8200 fits for my workflow .... and the damn thing sounds good ! It's not always realized until you hitthe BYPASS button ... therefore it is easy to overdo ... [but still sounds good/natural].Is there a 'better' 8200 emulation out there? I've not found it. I am surprised that GML didn't release an 8200. I have their MDWeQ-6 [which is excellent],but it is NOT an 8200 [happy about that !].What I use in Mastering can be different than what someone wants for Mixing. It's also nice to have several choices.I ran into this recently when UAD released their PULTEC as native. I already had a large collection of Pultecs, but after demo'ing the UAD, it wasclear that it would replace most of them. [still have the BetterMaker if I need digital clean].I
