Now, they’ve got it.The Grove City Division of Police, in partnership with Jackson Township, established two Internet purchase exchange zones in response to safety concerns from citizens regarding person-to-person exchanges of sales arranged online.“People are looking for a safe place,” said Tom Durflinger, community relations supervisor with the Grove City Division of Police.The two exchange zones in Grove City are located at City Hall, 4035 Broadway and the Jackson Township Administration Building, 3756 Hoover Road. The zones are identified by signage next to designated parking spaces at each location and each are under video surveillance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.“We were looking for safe, public places and these two areas already had cameras installed,” said Durflinger. “They are also on different sides of town, so it makes it convenient.”Residents can use the exchange zones to conduct their transactions, knowing the interaction will be recorded.“We encourage citizens to be in control of these exchanges using situational awareness and arranging meetings at either of the designated zones,” said Grove City Mayor Richard “Ike” Stage. “This safety step was taken as the result of effective community engagement by our division of police.”According to Durflinger, there has not been many issues reported in Grove City regarding internet exchanges going bad, but it happens in many other communities. Durflinger said someone was recently shot in Columbus during an exchange. He said other crimes include robbery, people using counterfeit money and people just driving off with the merchandise without paying.“If someone has bad intentions, they will not want to meet at one of these safe locations,” said Durflinger. “I hope people take advantage of these safe zones.”Along with meeting in a safe, public location, Durflinger advises residents to trust their gut when going into these situations.“If something doesn’t feel right, just don’t do it,” he said.The Internet purchase exchange zones are recorded but not monitored by an officer all day long. Shaffer has been missing since April 1, 2006. He was last seen around 2 a.m. at a bar near the Ohio State University campus. COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Columbus Division of Police released on Monday an age-progression photograph of Brian Shaffer, a central Ohio man who has been missing for nearly 15 years. Shaffer has been missing since April 1, 2006. He was last seen around 2 a.m. at a bar near the Ohio State University campus in the vicinity of North High Street in Columbus. He was last seen wearing jeans, a blue or green striped shirt and tennis shoes. Shaffer is described as being 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. Shaffer was 27 years old when he went missing and would now be 42. BCI’s forensic criminal artist constructed an age-progressed image of what Shaffer would look like now. John Hurst, a retired police sergeant who spent 15 years on the case, thinks "someone knows something out there." Investigators are hoping this picture might prompt the public to submit tips to law enforcement. “Take a close look at this image: a single tip can reignite a cold case and bring a family closer to reunification with a loved one,” Attorney General Dave Yost said. “Hope doesn’t have an expiration date – every missing person counts.” “It’s incredibly helpful when these types of updated images are put out," said Sgt. James Fuqua with the Columbus Division of Police. "Not only for this particular case but for any case because any new break or lead in the investigation that could help us locate someone is a wonderful and viable tool.” Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call Columbus police at (614) 645-2358. POLLUTION The Pollution button activates a display of the relative amounts of pollution in your city. This is a reading of all types of pollution combined, and is shown in shades of grey. LAND VALUE The Land Value button activates a display of the relative property values in the city, shown in shades of grey. CITY SERVICES The City Services button controls four map displays. Click and hold on it to open a submenu that lets you choose between displaying fire department power, fire department location schools and colleges. SecuritySecurity at the marinas is a common concern of people considering a slip at one of these public areas. The City of Columbus addresses this issue in several ways:Encouraging the boat owners to take an active part in this process by not leaving appealing items on their boats to be removed.All of the marina areas are secured with locking gates which have the tumblers changed every season to further increase this safety precaution.Onshore lights shine on the docks at night and a watchful vigil is maintained by the Columbus Marine Park Police at Grigg’s and the Columbus Watershed Rangers at O’Shaughnessy and Hoover.At all three reservoirs, the patrol watercrafts are based adjacent to the marinas, and the watchful eye of these officers coming and going contributes to the low incidence of problems at the marinas. All zones in SimCity 2000 can be decreed to be either light-density (low population) or dense (high population). As you zone areas, the empty zones are shown in colors so you can easily keep track of them. You can turn on and off the display of empty zones in the underground view with the Show Zones button in the City toolbar. There are three basic zones in SimCity 2000: residential, commercial and industrial. Residential zones, shown in green, are places where Sims live. They include everything from luxury homes to slums.
